Johnson was appointed Associate Judge in the 22nd Judicial Circuit in the Fall of 2019. She received her B.A. summa cum laude from Marian University, Indianapolis in 1993 and her J.D. from IU McKinney School of Law in 1996. Prior to serving on the bench, she was in private practice in both Indiana and then in Illinois.  She was responsible for medical malpractice and other litigated matters. During her judicial career, she championed a hybrid in-person/remote traffic court.  Beginning January 2023, she serves as the Special Assignment Judge in McHenry County.  Her duties include conducting Initial Appearances for those charged with criminal offenses.  She is a member of the Board of Governors of the McHenry County Bar Association and actively assists in coordinating CLE Education for the Bar and in planning for the Bar’s annual Law Day events. Judge Johnson is a member of the Illinois Judges Association and currently co-chairs the IJA Educational Programming Committee.  She is a frequent contributor to education outreach in her circuit.  In partnership with other judges, she has presented civics, dangers of social media, 4th amendment and 1st amendment education to local middle school and high school students during her tenure.  She is the recipient of the 2020-2021 ISBA Civics Education Award presented by the ISBA’s Standing Committee on Law-Related Education.  She has been appointed by the Illinois Judicial College Board of Trustees to serve on the IJC Committee on Judicial Education and is a member of the New Judge Orientation Workgroup.
